1950s

Founding and commercialization of water treatment

1949

Founded initially as a Water Treatment Chemicals business(boiler water treatment chemicals) and boiler cleaning business.

1951

Entry into the water treatment facilities business.

Established the Boiler Water Supply Laboratory in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo, western Japan.

1953

Development of chemical cleaning technology for boilers.

1957

Expansion into the wastewater treatment systems.

1958

Expansion into the cooling water treatment chemicals.

Start-up of maintenance service business.

Expansion into the amenity field.

1959

Established a chemical cleaning operations company (predecessor of the former Kurita Engineering Co., Ltd.)

1960s

Established the role as a “water department store” managing the comprehensive water treatment business

1961

Expansion into the wastewater treatment chemicals.

Established a water treatment facility maintenance and service company (predecessor of the former Kurita Technical Service Co., Ltd.).

Established a water treatment equipment and products company (predecessor of Kurita Creation Co., Ltd.)

1962

Established Research Center in Yokohama City, Kanagawa near Tokyo.

1963

Established an overseas division in Kurita Water Industries Ltd.

1965

Expansion into pulp and paper, petrochemical process treatment chemicals.

Built the first lazy river pool in the world to an outdoor leisure facility.

1966

Established a water treatment chemicals manufacture company(predecessor of Kurita Chemical Manufacturing Ltd.).

1967

Built the first wave pool in Japan to an outdoor leisure facility.

1970s

Contributing to environmental conservation as an environmental company

Expansion into the steel process treatment chemicals.

1972

Assembled the largest reverse osmosis membranes demineralizers in the world.

Expanded business into the field of civil engineering-related chemicals.

1973

Entry into the electronics industry.

1974

Established the joint venture Hansu Co., Ltd. in South Korea.

1975

Deployment of sewerage business.

Established a water treatment facility operation and maintenance service company (predecessor of Kuritaz Co., Ltd.).

Established Kurita do Brazil LTDA, our first overseas group company.

1977

Received first order for the ultra-pure water production system using wastewater reclamation.

Established Kurita (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.

Development of heavy metal treatment chemicals for fly ash in waste incinerators.

Established Kurita Water Industries (Dalian) Co., Ltd.

Established Kurita America, Inc.

1997

Merged Kurita Water Industries Ltd. and Kurita Technical Service Co., Ltd.

1998

Development of functional rince water manufacturing equipment for electronic material cleaning processes.

Assembled a demonstration facility for dry methane fermentation processing, reclaiming and creating energy from waste.

Acquired an equity stake in Hansu Technical Service Ltd.

2002

New service business: Pure water supply business launched for an LCD panel manufacturer in Singapore.

2003

Realization of 100% reclamation and recycling of wastewater in LCD panel manufacturers.

Established Kuritec Service Co., Ltd.

Established Kurita Analysis Service Co., Ltd.

2004

Established Kurita Water Industries (Suzhou) Ltd.

2006

Acquired Miyoshi Industries Co., Ltd. as a group company.

2009

Launch of ultra-pure water supply service at a large LCD complex.

Enhanced range of treatment chemicals for reverse osmosis membranes.

2010s

Accelerating expansion and globalization of service business

2012

Obtained NSF* certification for water treatment chemicals for reverse osmosis membranes.
*An international third-party certification organization for protecting and improving global human health.

Relocated head office to Nakano-ku, Tokyo.

2013

Launch of S.sensing, a water treatment management service, optimizing water treatment in real-time with sensing technology.

Established With Kurita Ltd.

2014

Development of boiler water treatment chemicals for scale dispersion and removal effects.

2015

Acquired the water treatment chemicals business from a European company, established as a group company (predecessor of Kurita Europe GmbH).

2016

Merged group companies in Europe as Kurita Europe GmbH.

2017

Start-up of selling wastewater treatment system, using Anammox microorganisms, for a large flow rate and low nitrogen concentration.

Established Kurita R&D Asia Pte. Ltd.

Acquired the American water treatment company Fremont Industries, LLC (predecessor of Kurita America, Inc.) as a group company.

Acquired the Korean water treatment company Hansu Co., Ltd. as a group company.

2018

Start-up of operating a vertical dry methane fermentation facility for energy reclamation and creation from waste.

Acquired Fracta Inc. as a group company.

2019

Assembled a water reclamation technology demonstration system for the International Space Station’s Japanese Experiment Module (KIBO).

Acquired the American water treatment company U.S. Water Services, Inc. as a group company.

Acquired the American and British water treatment companies Avista Technologies, Inc. and Avista Technologies (UK) Ltd. (predecessors of Kurita UK Ltd.) as a group company.

2020s

Developing new solutions to resolve a wide range of issues

Merged group companies in America as Kurita America, Inc.

Acquired the American tool cleaning company Pentagon Technologies Group, Inc. as a group company.

2021

Development of AIoptimized operation of water treatment solutions for reverse osmosis membranes equipment.

Merged Kurita Water Industries Ltd. and Kurita Engineering Co., Ltd.

Acquired the Middle Eastern water treatment chemicals company Kurita AquaChemie FZE and Kurita AquaChemie Saudi Arabia Co. as a group company.

Acquired the Canadian water treatment chemical company Keytech Water Management as a group company.

Established Kurita Europe Technology Center.

2022
